Cedars GolfAlthough the day began under cloudy skies, the weather was no deterrent to the sold-out crowd of 264 golfers who brought their clubs and their philanthropic spirit to the Elm Ridge Golf and Country Club on July 9 for the 29th Annual Cedars Cancer Institute Golf Tournament. This year’s event honoured the founders and past presidents of the Cedars, which has been supporting cancer patients in our community for more than 40 years. In a fitting tribute to those pioneering leaders, the 29th annual tournament was a resounding success, raising more than $560,000 for the Best Care for Life campaign to purchase state-of-the-art equipment which will put the MUHC at the forefront of the advancing science of preparing complex cancer drugs.

Cedars winnersThis represents an important step in the MUHC’s vision for cancer care, which began with the creation of the Cancer Care Mission in 2006, has continued through the relocation of oncology services from the Royal Victoria site to the Montreal General site (where the new equipment will first be installed), and will culminate in the creation of the new Cancer Care Centre at the Glen campus, where this new equipment will eventually be situated.

The Cedars is grateful to the sponsors, donors, golfers, advertisers, and dedicated volunteers, both from the MUHC and from its own ranks, whose efforts made for a great day on the links, an elegant evening gala and, most importantly, another generous contribution to the MUHC’s Cancer Care Mission.
