At the Forefront of Clinical Research- The Centre for Innovative Medicine
The new Research Institute of the MUHC at the Glen
Boasting a pediatric pod, an adult pod, an overnight pod with eight beds, a human performance and imaging centre, a CT scan, a PET-MRI, a sleep lab, an experimental OR and complete cardiac, respiratory and human functional suites, the CIM will support patient-oriented research programs for all of the hospitals located at the Glen. Designed to integrate every phase of research from the lab bench to the bedside and to the population, its primary services will consist of study design, budget preparation, study conduct, data management, statistical analysis and interpretation, manuscript editing, and assistance with abstract preparation. As an integral part of the MUHC’s Redevelopment project, the CIM will also offer some of its services at the Montreal General Hospital.
The CIM will be one of the most unique centres in Canada, offering clinicians at the Glen an opportunity to use its facilities on a full-service basis or via its “à la carte” services. Highly committed to maintaining the MUHC’s standard of excellence in patient care, teaching and research, the CIM’s workers must be trained according to Good Clinical Practices (GCPs) and the Research Institute’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Having launched a new clinical research certification program less than one year ago, over 340 researchers at the Institute have successfully completed their training.
Although the CIM will only be opening its doors in the summer of 2015, researchers at the MUHC’s constituent hospitals can benefit from Pre-CIM Units, which have already been implemented at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, and will be opening at the Royal Victoria Hospital in the coming weeks. Pre-CIMs at the Montreal General Hospital and the Montreal Chest Institute are slated to open in 2013-2014.
The CIM will be the focal point for physicians, and clinical and evaluative researchers. With construction at the Glen moving full speed ahead, MUHC researchers will soon benefit from one of the most modern facilities in North America, helping them foster new cures and treatments for some of the world’s most critical diseases, which will improve the quality and safety of clinical care in our community.
