The Cardiovascular Diseases and Critical Care Axis is dedicated to the understanding and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, which represent the major cause of death and disability in Canada and in the rest of the world. The major aims of the Axis are lipoprotein metabolism and cardiovascular genetics; vascular biology and response to inflammatory stress; cellular and mathematical models for the study of cardiac electrophysiology; epidemiological studies and assessment of technologies in cardiovascular health. Methodologies used by the Axis range from molecular cellular biology, integrative physiology, and clinical and epidemiological studies. Research performed by members of the Axis is presently conducted at the Montreal Children's Hospital, the Montreal General Hospital, the McIntyre Medical Sciences Building, and the Royal Victoria Hospital.
