The “Heart of Life” Benefit Show
Not only does it harbor love, generosity and courage, the heart is above all else a muscle essential for life. However, only when it is damaged, do we truly realize its importance. In Quebec, one child out of every 100 is born with a cardiac abnormality. This number is ten times greater than all other childhood illnesses.
The Montreal Children’s Hospital “Heart Of Life Fund”, chose the month of February, the month in which we all celebrate love, to invite guests to their first ever annual show to benefit children who suffer from “a broken heart”. This is a unique opportunity, to gather and celebrate the joy of life.
My child, my life, my heart
Connie Rotella, internationally renowned choreographer, is the creator and producer of this show ‘THE HEART OF LIFE’. In November 2005, Connie gave birth to Alessandro, who at only 3 days old underwent open heart surgery. During the 8 hour surgery, tons of emotions were tearing through Connie’s heart—fear, anger and sadness, but also strength and the will to fight for her newborn son. By dedicating this show, The Heart of Life, to the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation and to a cause she holds close to her own heart, it comforts her to know that all profits will help other families conquer their deepest fears. Today, Alessandro is a healthy 2 year old. You will see him on stage where he will share his story with you.
The Heart of Life, more than a show; a gathering
The benefit show ”The Heart of Life”, was a tribute to life, and was be premiered here in Quebec. This unique production was a mix of dance, song and theatre which brought together creative and passionate children, singers and dancers. Through movement and voice audience members journeyed with the children and their families through their battles and victories, witnessed their courage and joy of life. An experience so touching, you will undoubtedly remember it for a lifetime!
The most memorable moment of the show, was undoubtedly be the singing of the Heart of Life song, written by Connie Rotella, produced by Gardy Fury (Notre Dame de Paris, Generation Motown, Jack Paradise) and adapted by Emilie Josset ( Neuf, Chicago-french version).
The Cardio-Vascular Surgery Department at the Montreal Children’s Hospital is among the best in the world. The pediatric Cardiology Department is fortunate to have two of the best specialists in the world: Dr. Christo Tchervenkov, Cardiovacular surgeon and Dr. Marie Beland, Cardiologsit and 2006 recipient of the MCH Leadership award. Every dollar raised through this show supports research and purchase much needed equipment for the pediatric Cardiology Department of the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
