New Dining RoomThe MUHC’s Redevelopment Project reached a significant milestone on April 7 when the Quebec government announced the financing model and organizational framework that will govern the projects of Montreal’s three university health care centres: the MUHC, the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and Sainte-Justine.

For the MUHC, this announcement was a decisive step forward. First, the government provided a clear and transparent accounting for the project, taking into consideration such ancillary costs as indexation and expenses associated with upgrading road access to the Glen campus. Second, the parameters for the design, planning and construction of all phases of the redevelopment were established. The first phase of construction will see the building of a new Montreal Children’s Hospital of the MUHC at the Glen campus and renovations to the Mountain campus, both of which will be undertaken as conventional construction projects. At the same time, the MUHC will explore options for building the remaining facilities on the Glen (including adult ambulatory and in-patient pavilions and the Research Institute of the MUHC) through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The Redeveloped MUHC Building on the momentum of the announcement, a call for tenders was posted on the government’s Système électronic d’appel d’offres (SEAO) for a Master Architect, Master Engineer and Project Manager on June 1. These professionals should be hired by the end of the summer and will immediately begin working together to ensure that the construction projects move ahead in a timely and seamless fashion.
