Gifts and events increase campaign momentum
The Best Care for Life campaign received a number of significant donations over the last few months, including a tremendously generous half-million-dollar gift to support the efforts of Dr. Lawrence Rosenberg, a renowned researcher at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) who is working to eliminate insulin injections for patients suffering from juvenile diabetes. “This wonderful gift will help us test and refine what we believe is one of the most promising diabetes discoveries to come along in decades,” Rosenberg says. “We have the potential to make a difference to thousands, possibly millions, of diabetes sufferers around the world.”
On another front, the McGill University Health Centre Foundation is very pleased to announce that Anna Martini, President of the Dynamite Group and Treasurer of the MUHC Foundation Board, and Jacques Lefebvre, President of Lasalle College, have been named co-chairs of the Women’s Health Fashion Industry Campaign. Under their leadership, plans are underway for a major fall fashion event that will see retailers from across the city donate a percentage of their sales for a given weekend to the Women’s Health Mission.
Fundraising events got off to a great start this year at the Montreal International Auto Show Charity Preview on January 19 at the Palais des Congrès. This marks the second year in a row that the MUHC Foundation has been a participant in this glamorous evening, which raised over $265,000 that will be divided equally between the MUHC Foundation and the foundations of the CHUM, Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, Hôpital Sacré-Coeur and Hôpital Sainte-Justine.
In other event-related news, the MUHC Foundation has presented seven more instalments of its extremely popular New Faces, New Ideas breakfast lecture series since the beginning of December. With clinical leaders from across the MUHC’s seven missions delivering fascinating talks at some of the city’s most esteemed professional firms, as well as at inclusive community venues, New Faces provides a unique opportunity for audiences to experience first-hand the enthusiasm, commitment and skill that make the MUHC such an extraordinary health care institution.
More lectures are planned for the coming months. If you are interested in attending or hosting a New Faces, New Ideas lecture, or for more information on the series, please contact Monica McDougall at 514-931-5656
