Late last year, the MUHC had the pleasure of announcing the stellar international team of master architects that will oversee the redevelopment project on the Glen and Mountain campuses. While it had hoped to announce shortly thereafter its project manager and master engineers, the process was delayed and a second call for tenders for project manager was issued in December. The deadline for proposal submissions was February 1, 2007, and a selection committee is fast at work evaluating the submissions. The MUHC expects to announce the remaining members of its Redevelopment Project team within the next month, after which a core team of architects, engineers and project management professionals will move in to the planning office at the MUHC and begin their work.

Also earlier this year, the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks registered in the official Gazette for the City of Montreal a Notice of Decontamination relating to the Law on the Quality of the Environment. This official notice declares that all the land required to build the MUHC’s pediatric and adult hospitals, its research facilities and the Shriners Hospital is clean, safe and ready for construction; in fact, the work exceeds the strict standards of the Ministry. This, combined with the building of the Decarie off-ramp at de Maisonneuve, is a clear sign that the project is moving forward. As the season progresses and following the upcoming Quebec election, we will report more positive news, including an announcement from the government that elaborates the Public Private Partnership (PPP) elements of the project.
