Planning milestones at the MUHC
Spring has been a busy period for the McGill University Health Centre’s (MUHC) redevelopment team, with important advances being made in the planning for both the Glen and Mountain campuses.
As they consider the future of the Glen Campus, the MUHC’s planners have been putting the final touches on their Request for Proposals (RFP), which should be issued by the summer to the two consortia bidding on the project. This detailed document will provide the bidders with a precise and extraordinarily detailed set of parameters – called output specifications – that describe the physical environment needed for our caregivers to do their best work. Once the RFPs are issued, the two consortia will work to come up with design solutions that are creative, effective, durable and fiscally sound.
Our plans for the Glen Campus received another boost with the Shriners’ confirmation in April that they will build their new Canadian hospital at that site, right alongside the Montreal Children’s Hospital of the MUHC. The MUHC’s planners are now working closely with the Shriners to ensure that the two facilities will have everything they require to work in tandem so that pediatric patients can benefit from a full range of services.
Up the hill at the Mountain Campus, an important milestone was reached with the completion of the first stage of public consultations on the MUHC’s proposed conceptual designs. Citizens were given presentations outlining the project by the MUHC and the City of Montreal and were invited to ask questions on everything from parking to road signage to ambulance routing and tree planting. This most recent concept for the Mountain Campus does justice to the MUHC’s commitment to preserving the precious natural environment of Mount Royal. The next step is for interested parties to present written briefs on June 9 to the commissionaires appointed by the Office of Public Consultations.
