Women’s Health in print and on stage
Montreal Cooks reprint official launch
The reprint of the bestselling Montreal Cooks cookbook was officially launched at a special press conference held in April at the Women’s Health Pavilion of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). The book’s editor, Karen Dubrofsky, spoke to assembled members of the press about the book’s amazing success and how the proceeds from the first run have been used to purchase diagnostic equipment used in gynecological oncology. She also announced that Montreal Cooks is now available across Canada thanks to the support of Shopper’s Drugmart. Also on hand was Dr. Lucy Gilbert, gynecological oncologist with the MUHC. She announced the official beginning of a new research project called Detecting Ovarian Cancer Early, also known as the DOVE project. With the help of two of her patients and a colleague,
Dr. Gilbert explained how this special initiative aims to diagnose women with ovarian cancer in the earliest possible stages and has the potential of saving many women from this deadly disease.
Friendship Across the Ocean Success
In early April, over 60 musicians took to the stage of the Monument National for the special Friendship Across the Ocean concert in support of Women’s Health at the MUHC. The performance was given by the Toronto Chinese Orchestra, the Overseas Chinese Music Ensemble, and renowned soloists playing traditional instruments. Friendship Across the Ocean was made possible by the generous collaboration of the Hong Kong Trade and Economic Office and the assistance of Pierrette Wong, Co-Chair of the Women’s Health division of the Best Care for Life campaign. The concert raised close to $50,000 for the Women’s Health Mission of the MUHC.
