Luminato Arts Festival raises $25,000 for The Kate McGarrigle Fund

25 Oct 2012

Luminato has grown to become one of the leading festivals in North America.  Featuring a variety of musical, theatrical, dance, and operatic performances, among many others, one of the Festival’s highly-anticipated concerts was held at Massey Hall on June 15, 2012. Love Over and Over- The Songs of Kate McGarrigle brought together the late Kate McGarrigle’s family and friends, including her children Rufus and Martha Wainwright, her sisters Anna and Jane McGarrigle, many other members of the Wainwright-McGarrigle families.  Special guests Emmylou Harris, Bruce Cockburn, Peggy Seeger, and Robert Charlebois also joined the star-studded event to celebrate the life and work of this talented singer-songwriter.

Concertgoers who purchased $250 gala tickets received a front-of-the-house seat for the show, and were treated to an intimate meet-and-greet with the artists.  A portion of the proceeds from all gala tickets and general admission benefited The Kate McGarrigle Fund, established to support teaching and research in oncology-related fields at the MUHC and Jewish General Hospital.  Since its inception, the Fund has raised over $250,000, and its fourth fellowship was recently awarded to Dr. Cristiano Ferrario.

The MUHC Foundation thanks all of the organizers, committee members, and performers who worked to ensure that the 2012 edition of the Luminato Arts Festival was another resounding success.  Next year’s festival will be held from June 14-23, 2013.
