Caring for Trauma
In the autumn of 2005, Mark Louch saw a news report on the work being done at the Montreal General Hospital’s Trauma Centre
and was stirred to action. “I saw what great work they were doing for
trauma patients and just wanted to do something to help,” he recalls.
And help he did: since then, Louch has made monthly donations to the
McGill University Health Centre Foundation in support of the hospital’s
Department of Emergency Medicine.
Although he hasn’t had any personal experience at MGH’s Trauma Centre, Louch suffered from head injuries as a youngster and wishes he had had the opportunity then to receive the caliber of care that is now available at the MUHC. “Trauma can happen at any time! Like we all learned from Natasha Richardson’s accident, something as simple as a little fall can cause serious injury. We should all band together to help however we can.”
Louch serves as an excellent example to anyone considering making a charitable donation but hesitant because of the amount of money involved. He is currently unemployed and receives social assistance, and yet he manages to put a small amount aside for the MUHC Foundation every month. “Every little bit helps,” he shrugs, adopting the fundraiser’s mantra for himself—and, hopefully, inspiring others to do so as well.
