Dr. Mostafa M. Elhilali, OC, M.D., Ph.D, FRCS(C)

Mostafa Elhilali was born in Egypt and graduated from Cairo University in 1959. He is presently the Chairman of the Department of Surgery, and also holds the position of Stephen Jarislowsky Chair in Urology at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. In addition, he is Surgeon-in-Chief at the Royal Victoria and Montreal General Hospitals and Urologist at both hospitals. He is an officer of the Order of Canada (OC).
Professor Elhilali is an active member of many national and international societies including the Canadian Urological Association (CUA), American Urological Association, the European Urological Association, and the Société Internationale d’Urologie for which he is President. In the past he has held several prestigious positions such as President of the Canadian Urological Association and President of the Northeastern section of the American Urological Association (AUA). He has also been the recipient of numerous awards, most recently these included the life achievement award of the CUA, and the Jean Charbonneau life achievement award of the Quebec Urological Association, the AUA Distinguished Contribution Award, and recently received the Kidney Foundation of Canada Founder’s Award. For his successful collaboration with scientists at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Dr. Elhilali was honoured at a Gala in June 2007 by the Weizmann Science Canada and the Montreal General Hospital. In April 2009, he will be receiving the American Urological Association( AUA) Lifetime Achievements Award.
Dr. Elhilali is married and has 5 children and 4 grandchildren.
