 RE$EARCH Infosource Inc., one of Canada's leading consulting firms, recently released its ranking of the top 40 Research Hospitals for 2011. The Research Institute of the MUHC (RI-MUHC) has claimed the fourth overall spot and the top spot in Quebec. The results were tallied based on research intensity, which includes both grants and contracts.

Montreal, February 6, 2012 – Ten MUHC doctors amazed, thrilled and thoroughly entertained the 800-plus capacity crowd at the event held on February 4th at Métropolis.  The event raised $203,000 for the hospital’s Best Care for Life Campaign.

Montreal, January 31, 2012 – The Auxiliary of the Royal Victoria Hospital is pleased to announce a $1 million donation to the McGill University Health Centre’s (MUHC) Best Care for Life Campaign, making this the largest contribution in the Auxiliary’s 167-year history.

Montreal, January 23, 2012– The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) Foundation, the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Fondation du Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) announced today that TD is donating $2 million to the Joint Corporate Campaign. The funds will be used to support the redevelopment projects of the two academic healthcare institutions.

On Sunday, December 11, Montrealers were treated to an exceptional evening of entertainment as the 2011 edition of the A Not So Silent Night: Christmas with the Wainwrights and McGarrigles concert was held at the St-Denis Theatre.

On Wednesday, October 19, 2011, the 21^st edition of the Research Institute of the MUHC Awards was presented at the Sofitel Hotel. Over $2 million in research grants was awarded to 85 well-deserving investigators, including Dr. Philip Wong, this year’s winner of The Kate McGarrigle Fund Fellowship Award, which supports teaching and research in Oncology.

John A. Rae, Chair of The Best Care for Life Campaign and member of the MUHC Foundation Board of Directors, received an honourary degree from McGill University during its fall convocation ceremony, which was  held on November 23, 2011 at Place des Arts.

The Research Institute of the MUHC and McGill University have received a number of CIHR grants to support student recruitment and training.

A discovery by a team of Canadian and American researchers could provide new ways to fight HIV-AIDS. According to a new study published in Nature Medicine, HIV-AIDS could be treated through a combination of targeted chemotherapy and current Highly Active Retroviral (HAART) treatments.

Dr. Maya Saleh and her MUHC-based team of researchers will use a generous grant from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund to help identify the genes involved in our body's first line of defense.
