Dr. Gerald Fried and Dr. Liane Feldman
Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) at the MUHC was the star of the show at the MUHC Foundation’s New Faces, New Ideas breakfast, held April 4, 2006, at the offices of the accounting firm RSM Richter. Here is a photo gallery of the event.
Dr. Gerald Fried, Chief of MIS and Innovation at the MUHC, introduced a group of over 60 invited guests to the latest advances in minimally invasive surgical techniques, and explained how the MUHC has moved to the forefront of this exciting field.
Dr. Fried’s talk was followed by a presentation by MUHC Minimally Invasive Transplant specialist Dr. Liane Feldman, who focused on the laparoscopic removal of donor kidneys and the dramatic reductions in risk, discomfort and recovery time this procedure offers over conventional surgery.
Finally, a patient of Dr. Feldman’s offered an eloquent testimonial of her experience as a kidney donor to her husband, describing with touching emotion how MIS had helped reduce the trauma of her portion of the procedure so that she could focus on her husband’s transplant and recovery.
The New Faces, New Ideas breakfasts are a series of morning lectures organized by the MUHC Foundation and the Friends of the MUHC, and are designed to expose select groups of invitees to the expertise of the MUHC’s doctors, nurses and professionals.
