Dr. Jacques Genest
In June, AstraZeneca welcomed the McGill University Health Centre's own Dr. Jacques Genest, Director of Cardiology. During his breakfast lecture, Dr. Genest, who is also Professor of Medicine and Head of Cardiology at McGill University, revealed and explained recent developments in the treatment of heart disease at the MUHC.
Dr. Genest received his MD from McGill University in 1980 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal and his cardiology fellowship at Tufts University in 1984-6. Following his clinical training, he obtained a Centennial Scholarship from the Medical Research Council of Canada for post-doctoral studies at Tufts University in lipoprotein metabolism and molecular genetics from 1986-90.
Genest returned to Montreal as director of the Cardiovascular Genetics Laboratory and the cardiology clinic at the Clinical Research Institute of Montreal. In May of 2000, he was appointed chief of cardiology at the MUHC and director of the cardiology program at McGill University.
Genest’s research is aimed at investigating metabolic and genetic disorders in premature coronary artery disease. His research is supported by a number of prestigious grants from agencies including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States and the March of Dimes.
The 2007/2008 season of New Faces, New Ideas lectures gives invited guests, community, and corporate groups from across the city the chance to hear first-hand about the exciting work being done by the McGill University Heath Centre’s talented professionals.
