Horizon Awards

In December 2007, the McGill University Health Centre Foundation launched its new website, created by Design Postimage for Knockout Communications. The site is powered by Drupal, a leading open source content management system, and includes a wide assortment of features—events calendar, forums, live chat, photo and video galleries, downloadable audio clips, online donations, etc.—that encourage increased user interaction and participation, and allow for communication to be targeted at specific groups: donors, volunteers, staff and the general public. Drupal implementation and programming was done in collaboration with Koumbit, a local non-profit organisation whose mission is to promote the appropriation of open source software by social groups in Quebec, in Canada and abroad.

"Building trusted and on-going relationships is one of the most important elements of philanthropy. Timely and relevant communication between the Foundation, its donors and the community at large is a key to success. Our goal at the McGill University Health Centre Foundation was to create a website that would add value to information already available, and allow for timely, ongoing and credible dialogue to take place amongst patients, donors, doctors, nurses, researchers, and other members of our community. I believe we achieved this with the launch of our new website last December, and I am very pleased that the site has been recognized by the Horizon Interactive Awards for its content, design and architecture, and especially for its ability to enhance the MUHC Foundation's commitment to engage the community in the very important activities that take place every day at the McGill University Health Centre."
