What will happen to emergency room care?
In its current configuration, the MUHC has one pediatric and two adult emergency rooms. This will still be the case in the redeveloped McGill University Health Centre.
The Emergency Department at the Mountain Campus will retain its status as a government designated Level I Trauma Centre, receiving trauma as well as general cases. The campus will house important programs that support trauma such as orthopedics, neurosurgery and medical imaging (diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine).
Over at the Glen Campus, there will be two emergency departments: one at the adult facility that will accept cardiac cases as well as referrals from other hospitals; and a pediatric emergency that will retain its designation as a Level I Trauma Centre and treat all pediatric emergencies.
While the two emergency rooms on the Glen site will be in close proximity to each other and will share equipment and other resources when appropriate, pediatric and adult patients will be treated separately.
