How many beds are being planned for the two sites?

The primary concern of the McGill University Health Centre is to provide comprehensive health care that meets the complex needs of all of its patients - those who require ambulatory (outpatient) care and those who are hospitalized. In 2003-2004, there were close to 1-million ambulatory visits and 40-thousand inpatient stays at the MUHC. In recent years, thanks to major advances in diagnostic technology, surgical techniques and treatment approaches, ambulatory care has become the norm not only at the MUHC, but also in more and more hospitals worldwide. As a result, there is less need for in-hospital beds, and this positive trend is expected to continue.

The MUHC's redevelopment plan calls for the distribution of 688 adult beds across its two campuses: 332 at the Mountain Campus and 356 at the Glen Campus. The Glen will also house 144 pediatric beds at the Montreal Children's Hospital of the MUHC.
