As one of the largest and most comprehensive university hospital centres in Canada, the McGill University Health Centre brings together thousands of doctors, nurses, professionals and staff in an environment animated by energy and diversity.

Here are some statistics that give a sense of the MUHC’s scope:

Each year, the MUHC receives over 802,000 ambulatory visits, including 134,000 emergency department visits. On top of that, the MUHC receives 37,000 inpatients yearly. That means 29,847 surgeries; 134,580 visits to the emergency department; 3,100 births; and a whopping 8,884,102 diagnostic tests performed every year. All that, plus 6,000 calls to the switchboard every day!



RESEARCH
The Research Institute of the MUHC is the largest medical and life sciences research facility of its kind in Canada, and obtains close to $100 million in research funding annually from external sources.

Close to 2,000 people train at the MUHC, including some 815 medical and surgical residents, 150 medical students, 800 nurses, and hundreds of allied-health students.
