New Windows on the Mountain, PPP Meetings for the Glen
A New Window on the Redevelopment Project
As part of the McGill University Health Centre’s Redevelopment Project on the Mountain Campus, the windows at the Montreal General Hospital site of the MUHC will be entirely replaced. As such, a new prototype window was recently installed at the hospital in order to show patients and staff the exact window model which will progressively be installed at the Mountain Campus.
The triple glazed option was selected to ensure that the Mountain Campus will feature the highest technical standards in its design. This type of window meets not only current needs but responds also to future requirements including increased air conditioning, increased humidity, and potential modifications to the heating system. The decision to use this window type was reached by a committee comprised of architects, engineers, management, as well as representatives of the Redevelopment Project. The new window also features a self-contained venetian blind mechanism.
The PPP process on the Glen: meetings with user groups begin
It seems hard to believe that almost four months have passed since the Request for Proposals (RFP) was launched. Having thoroughly reviewed all of the documentation provided as part of the RFP, the two bidding consortia, along with the MUHC’s Redevelopment Team, are now entering a critical and exciting part of this process: meetings with user groups representing physicians, nurses, professionals, clinical and non-clinical staff, researchers and other stakeholders from across the MUHC.
These meetings will allow the consortia to “give life” to the set of specifications that were provided to them in the RFP by hearing first hand what the MUHC’s caregivers need in order to continue providing patients with the best care for life. Over the coming months, the bidders will be making countless decisions about how best to translate the MUHC’s clinical plan and functional and technical programme into a living, breathing hospital. User groups will help guide and influence those decisions, making sure that, when the time comes to choose between the two final design proposals, it will be the toughest decision it can be.
