Kate McGarrigle dies peacefully after battle with sarcoma
It is with heavy hearts that the MUHC Foundation announces the death of one of its strongest supporters, Kate McGarrigle.
The beloved and award-winning singer-songwriter--and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend--succumbed to her illness on Monday night, surrounded by loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with sarcoma.
In 2008, Kate established the Kate McGarrigle Fund in partnership with the MUHC Foundation and the Cedars Cancer Institute to raise dollars and public awareness for the fight against sarcoma. Since then, the Fund has raised nearly $140,000 supporting advanced research and patient care of this rare and devastating form of cancer at the McGill University Health, the Jewish General Hospital and Cancer Research UK. This past December, $55,000 of this total was raised at the McGarrigle and Wainright family’s annual Christmas concert – A Not So Silent Night. The much-lauded event which took place at the Royal Albert Hall was Kate’s last public performance.
