Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre

DNA sequencerDynamic and productive research institutes are at the heart of the world’s best university health centres. The Research Institute of the MUHC is home to more than 625 researchers who are pushing the boundaries of knowledge in the most innovative and promising research axes in contemporary science. The MUHC’s Research Institute has developed a completely integrated model of research and clinical care, giving researchers access to the MUHC’s large and diverse patient population while ensuring that these patients can benefit from the latest treatments and techniques.

The MUHC’s renowned clinical and scientific researchers have put Montreal on the map as the hub of Canada’s biomedical and pharmaceutical industries, providing a powerful stimulus to Montreal’s economy. Last year alone, the Research Institute of the MUHC attracted more than $100 million dollars in external funding.

Vivian Loo and Richard LalondeEnsuring that the MUHC’s Research Institute maintains its status as a scientific leader is one of the key objectives of the Best Care for Life campaign. Of the campaign’s $300 million total, $50 million has been earmarked to support research.  The RI-MUHC was also the recipient of a $100 million grant from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), which will support the construction of the MUHC's new facilities at the Glen.  Our researchers are already benefiting from several generous leadership gifts, including support for research into peanut allergies in children, geriatrics and diabetes
