Dynamic research institutes are the heart of the world’s best university health centres, and the Research Institute of the MUHC (RI-MUHC) is one such place. As the research arm of the MUHC, and affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University, it houses one of the largest concentrations of researchers in Canada. The RI-MUHC’s dynamic and multidisciplinary team and it continues to pushes the boundaries of research to discover new treatments and ultimately cures for some of the world’s most devastating illnesses.
The RI-MUHC works closely with the hospital’s physicians and surgeons to foster new treatments and improve the health of patients across their lifespan. It has developed a completely integrated model of research and clinical care, giving researchers access to the MUHC’s large and diverse patient population while ensuring that these patients can benefit from the latest treatments and techniques.
With more than 460 researchers, 1,300 research students, and 1,700 ongoing research projects and clinical trials, the RI-MUHC is consistently ranked as one of the top research hospitals in the country and the first overall in Quebec. Its renowned clinical and scientific researchers have put Montreal on the map as the hub of Canada’s biomedical and pharmaceutical industries, providing a powerful stimulus to the city’s economy. The RI-MUHC’s research programs bring together a minimum of 15 investigators who identify with common themes across the three pillars of basic, evaluative and clinical research, and each of the programs was designed by its members.
