On November 7, 2017, more than 600 guests attended the first ever Red Ribbon Night, a musical evening featuring international contemporary singer Barbara Lewis, who paid tribute to Canadian music, including the great Leonard Cohen. Over 22,000$ were raised at Red Ribbon Night, and proceeds from this inspiring musical evening will help establish a Patient Care Fund at the MUHC’s Chronic Viral Illnes Service (CVIS) clinic.

Social worker Claire Duscheneau is extremely grateful for the establishment of this fund. “In the 30 years I’ve worked in HIV I’ve dealt with a lot of poverty,” she said. “But in the last few months I’ve had patients say to me ‘I’m hungry.’”

This fund will allow members of the MUHC’s Social Service team to assist patients in covering some of their basic needs – and ultimately ensure they can continue receiving the healthcare they require.
